The Throat is the source of the voice, which is the medium of communication. Humans evolved the extraordinary ability to communicate abstract ideas to one another by vibrating their throats, because it enabled them to strengthen their bonds and survive. Since those dawning days of humanity, our ability to communicate has nearly perfected itself. The Throat has become marginalized; that sort of communication is temporally finite and limited in range. Humans can now project their ideas around the world, bouncing them off of orbiting satellites, greatly exceeding the speed of sound, by which our voice communications are limited. Consequently, our new communication, and increasingly our entire way of life, is dependent on this massive, delicate infrastructure. This song considers what would happen if that infrastructure were to collapse.
lyrics
someday, suddenly
11 billion people
all develop
malignant cancers
at the same time.
some kind
of wave
wipes all the satellites
out of the sky.
it ripples
through every
nervous system
ripping
tissues
tearing
membranes
mutating
cells.
